Flames hold urgent players only meeting after losing streak

They need to turn things around before it’s too late.

We all expected the all-Canadian Scotia North division to be a tough one to compete into this season, however, we can’t say if the Calgary Flames had the same expectations.

Now, they’re facing the tough reality that reflects on their record : the Flames are now 2-3-1 six games into the season, sitting sixth in their division, just barely above the Ottawa Senators. The Flames are currently on a three-game losing streak and sit 28th in the league.

They face the Montreal Canadiens once again on Saturday, the team that beat the Flames 4-2 on Thursday at the Bell Center.

The players have had enough and know time is crucial in this shortened season : that’s why they have decided to hold a players only meeting on Friday to discuss the losing streak and, hopefully, find solutions.

After the 4-2 loss to the Habs last night, some players admitted how the early deficit got to them.

“I just think we lacked some emotion,” said Sean Monahan, per Sportsnet.
“You’ve got to be invested emotionally in games, and when that’s lacking it’s tough to get momentum. We’ve got to play for each other. We’ve got a tight team, so we’ve got to regroup here real quick. We’ve got to be invested a lot harder and play harder, and when you do that that’s when you get results.”

We bet this lack of emotion will be discussed today in the meeting. We will see the impact it has on the Flames as they face off against the Canadiens tomorrow night.
