While they still didn't qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Detroit Red Wings showed noticeable signs of improvement last season during the shortened 2020-21 NHL campaign. Not only were their defensive numbers better, but their offensive output has jumped several spots as compared to the horrific 2019-20 season that saw Detroit finish by far with the worst record prior to the COVID-19 shutdown.

However, there's one prediction out there right now that won't be very well received by Red Wings fans who are eager to see their team continue their rebuild under the tutelage of Steve Yzerman.

FiveThirtyEight, a website focusing on opinion poll analysis, politics, economics, and sports blogging, has picked the Red Wings to finish dead last in the National Hockey League this year. They even believe that the Buffalo Sabres, who were the NHL's worst club in 2021, will finish ahead of them in the standings.
