Finally some fans allowed at games in Canada!

There is a sense of good news in Canada, but one that might come too late for Montreal Canadiens’ fans. On Tuesday, Quebec’s premier Francois Legault announced the curfew lifting across the provinces on May 28 and masks no longer mandatory in most situations by the end of August. Where this might be bittersweet for Habs fans is that Legault announced that as of May 28 halls and stadiums in the province will be allowed to admit 250 people per section, meaning a potential Game 6 between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs could see 2,500 fans in attendance at the Bell Centre on May 29.

For that, the Habs need to win at least two games against the Maple Leafs.

All seven Canadian NHL teams have played in front of empty arenas this season amid the COVID-19 global pandemic while clubs in the United States have started to allow fans in the stands for the playoffs.

The news isn’t as good for fans in Toronto, Edmonton and Winnipeg, the other three Canadian teams involved in the postseason.  Earlier Tuesday, the Canadian deputy chief public health officer Dr. Howard Njoo said allowing fans into buildings for Canadian playoff games is not under “serious consideration” at the moment.

The action between the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs kick off on Thursday in Toronto in an empty Scotiabank Arena.
