The Montreal Canadiens added defenseman Jeff Petry to their lineup after he was initially named a scratch for tonight's Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena (Brett Kulak left the lineup to make room).
And right away, fans began to notice that something was amiss with Petry's eyes. Petry, who had been absent from the lineup since injuring his hand in Game 3 of his team's previous round series against the Winnipeg Jets, has been seen in several television shots with his eyes noticeably bloodshot:
His vision wasn't blurred enough to keep him from assisting on Tyler Toffoli's 1st period goal to give Montreal a 2-0 lead, however.
According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Petry is suffering from an eye infection. It appears that it could be a subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is a red spot on the eyes caused by a broken blood vessel.
“He’s a key piece to our team,” frequent Petry defensive partner Joel Edmundson said. “He was our best defenseman all year and he’s obviously huge on the power play, too."
Through 10 games in the playoffs, Petry has registered four assists along with an even plus/minus rating.
