ESPN hires Ray Ferraro and Brian Boucher for NHL coverage

This just in, ESPN has hired Ray Ferraro and Brian Boucher as analysts for the 2021-22 season once the sports broadcasting giant takes over as majority NHL rights holder.

I've got to say... this is a HUGE benefit to ESPN in their inaugural season back with the NHL. Both Ferraro and Boucher are astute, well-respected broadcasters with a wealth of experience in front of the camera. Ferraro, in particular, might be the best analyst in hockey. Period.

The 44 year old Boucher has been an analyst with NBC since hanging up the goalie skates in 2014 following a stellar career where he played mostly back up roles with the Philadelphia Flyers and Arizona Coyotes. He has a great ability to identify and break down plays so that even the most novice of hockey fans can understand what's going on.

As for Ferraro... the guy is simply one of the best. I'd go so far as to say that he's the best pure analyst in the entire NHL regardless of network. The 56 year old is mostly known from his time with the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and Hartford Whalers but he has transitioned into a analyst's career that frankly he seems tailor made for. He's been with TSN for years now and it's always a treat to listen to him break down plays whether it's at the NHL level or the World Junior level.

Suffice it to say that ESPN has absolutely scored with both of these hirings. Things are off the a great start for the NHL's newest rights holder down south.
