Eric Staal to be traded, wants out of Buffalo!

Veteran forward Eric Staal wants to keep his winning reputation alive. And he seems to know that won’t happen with the Buffalo Sabres.

As of matter of fact, team insider John Vogl of The Athletic reported on Monday that Staal would be willing to go pretty much anywhere. On Tuesday, the Fourth Period discussed the possibility of seeing the 36-year-old on the move again, he who would love to end up with a contender for the chance to win another championship before hanging up the skate.

Staal however holds a 10-team no-trade list and could be very picky with it in order to take part in the postseason : the poor guy hasn’t won a playoff series since 2009. His chances are limited, which could explain why he has made it clear he would love to be moved ahead of the April 12 trade deadline.

Here is the Fourth Period's analysis:

As for a return, the Sabres cannot expect to get that much. To acquire him from the Minnesota Wild, the Sabres gave up third-line forward Marcus Johansson. “They’d be lucky to get that back. It would more likely be a prospect or pick,” Vogl puts it.

Staal has struggled to deliver on this reputation with the Sabres and a change of scenery could indeed be beneficial for everyone involved.
