The Minnesota Wild are set to hit the ice on Sunday night against the Colorado Avalanche, but they will be doing so with a depleted roster and it sounds like they may be playing that way for the foreseeable future.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba was forced to leave Saturday's contest against the aforementioned Avalanche early after he fell awkwardly during the game's third period. Dumba had become entangled with fellow Wild teammate Jordan Greenway and that caused Dumba to fall off balance with his leg seemingly taking the brunt of the impact.

I wish I could say that the update from head coach Dean Evason was a good one on Sunday but honestly the opposite is the truth with Evason informing reporters that it simply did not look good. The head coach would not provide any more details regarding what has been confirmed to be a lower body injury, and I suspect that this may be due in part to the fact that the Wild themselves don't have the full picture regarding the severity of Dumba's injury just yet.

The Wild also revealed that Marcus Johansson had suffered an injury on Saturday night but in the case of Johansson the team offered no additional details. We don't know what type of injury this is or how long he might be out, and the update from the head coach on Johansson was simply Evason saying that he hopes the injury is not serious.

The Wild have also lost forward Marcus Foligno this evening after he was placed in the National Hockey League's covid protocol, which means that the Wild will be operating with a patchwork roster on Sunday night against the Avalanche. Gerald Mayhew, Kyle Rau, Brad Hunt and Luke Johnson are all expected to slot into the lineup this evening as a result of the number of issues the Wild are currently juggling, so it will be a true test of organization depth on Sunday.

The 3 game suspension that Wild forward Kevin Fiala earned himself after a hit on Los Angeles Kings defenseman Matt Roy last week now looks much worse given the context of today's updates, it could not have come at a worse time.
