Dubas after Canucks’ outbreak messed the schedule: “Why are we getting f*cked?”

Last season, the Vancouver Canucks were shut down from March 25 to April 17 due to a massive COVID-19 outbreak in the team’s dressing room with 25 members testing positive to the virus.

During that time, the Toronto Maple Leafs were affected by the changes, like all Canadian teams in the North Division. Their first two games back were against Toronto, being moved from April 17 and 19 to April 18 and 20, respectively.

While we could assume the changes didn’t please any of the clubs, the reaction of Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas was caught on tape as he was being filmed for the new Amazon Prime Video all-access series All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs.

According to the Daily Hive, in one scene, Dubas is on the phone with who we assume to be an NHL executive, though we have no clue who he is speaking too, but this is what he says about the COVID outbreak in Vancouver and its consequences:

“You called me to tell me that we have to jam a back-to-back in our schedule because Vancouver had [five games in seven days], and that’s not safe and healthy,” Dubas said on the phone call. “Now you’re trying to tell me that we can play a five-in-seven this upcoming week. Why is our health and safety not as important as Vancouver’s? Why are we getting… fucked?”

Now, it’s unclear which passage of games Dubas was worried about because his Maple Leafs never had to play “five-in-seven” in the calendar.

As I mention here above, the Maple Leafs were the only ones whose schedule had to undergo changes with the Canucks’ outbreak. Three other Leafs games against Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Montreal had their dates changed as they were affected by other scheduling conflicts created by Vancouver’s outbreak.

But this is the only reaction we got from a rival team, and Dubas is caught redhanded. You’ll be able to watch him when the full series drops Friday, October 1 on Amazon Prime Video.
