Don Sweeney and the Bruins claim a former Habs first round draft pick.

It would be wrong to suggest that the career of former first round draft pick Jarred Tinordi has come full circle, but it may be fair to suggest it has taken a drastic turn of events considering how everything has played out. 

On Saturday the Boston Bruins added a little toughness to their lineup when they claimed Tinordi on waivers, taking him off the hands of the Nashville Predators who I suspect would have preferred to keep Tinordi in the fold. Joining Boston makes for a very interesting turn of events considering where Tinordi began his NHL career and the hype that was behind him at the time.

There was a ton of hype surrounding Tinordi in Montreal all the way back in 2010 when he was selected 22nd overall by the Canadiens at that year's National Hockey League Entry Draft, but unfortunately things never quite worked out the way either Tinordi or the Canadiens had hoped. Although Tinordi was able to provide a gritty presence on the blue line he would go on to appear in just 46 NHL games for the Canadiens, spending most of his time in that organization with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, before eventually being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in the now infamous trade that saw the Canadiens acquire NHL All-Star John Scott.

Since then Tinordi has bounced around playing primarily in the American Hockey League, but a recent stint with the Nashville Predators has seen him earn more ice time at the NHL level. Tinordi played in 28 games for the Preds last season picking up a goal and 4 assists for 5 points, and has made 7 appearances this season collecting no points over that stretch of play. Of course the challenging circumstances of this season have no doubt helped him get more ice time, but obviously the Bruins see in him a useful player that could benefit their roster.

A player that was once drafted by the Canadiens to help them deal with bigger and tougher teams, notably like the Boston Bruins, has now found himself on the other side of that rivalry. Unfortunately due to this pandemic it seems very unlikely that we will get to see Tinordi take on the Canadiens in a Bruins uniform, at least not this season.
