Disgraced referee Tim Peel says ‘he’s back’ on social media and gets rough welcome

Back in March, the National Hockey League announced that referee Tim Peel will no longer work NHL games “now or in the future” after his comments about a Nashville penalty were heard on a hot mic during Tuesday’s  Red Wings - Predators  game. Comments made were caught on a hot mic and it was determined that it was Peel. After Viktor Arvidsson was called for tripping Jon Merrill, Peel was heard on the FOX broadcast saying, “It wasn’t much, but I wanted to get a fuckin’ penalty against Nashville early in the …” before the audio cut out.

While fans commanded the NHL for sticking its grounds, Peel was set to retire and officiate his last game on April 24. He did not miss out on a whole lot though he did not get the goodbye he was expecting.

On Thursday, Peel took on social media to announce that he was back, do not worry he means on social media, and fans were quick to send him some tough liners to remind him of what he did before he could call himself a retired NHL referee.

“I’m back. And what a great way to return, and play some golf with my dear friend, Darren Pang, in Michigan.”

Here is what some fans had to say. We wanted to keep it as clean as we could, though we feel this is pretty funny:

Gotta love hockey fans on Twitter - well, when they’re not going after you. Right, Tim?
