Darryl Sutter already in hot water after 5 games behind Flames’ bench

Things got ugly on Wednesday night as the Calgary Flames struggled mightily against the Edmonton Oilers, who managed to score seven goals on netminder Jacob Markstrom.

Yes, the poor goalie was in between the pipes as he was beat seven times on 30 shots.

Fans were loud on social media to get him out of there, however head coach Darry Sutter, who was coaching his fifth game this season in his return to Calgary, doesn’t believe in making goalie changes in-game.

“Not for one shift, second, minute, anything,” Sutter said, per TSN. “Every team I’ve ever coached, I do not pull the goalie.

“I believe they fight their way out of it just like everybody else. It’s basically a trust thing because I think he’s an awesome goalie. But he has to be able to battle too.”

Wednesday's loss marked the Flames first since Sutter was made his debut behind the bench last week.

The Flames did managed to come back in the third - a little bit - but it was a night to forget for everyone, and since Sutter did not pull him, especially for Markstrom, who who saw his record drop to 11-8-2 with the loss.

“It was a [bad] night by me,” Markstrom said. “I feel bad. I feel terrible. They scored on every chance they got, pretty much. It’s my job to keep the puck out of the net and I didn’t do that. It’s embarrassing and frustrating for sure.”

He has a .903 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average this season, his first with the Flames.

And Sutter might punish his players with another bag skate practice…
