According to a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, former New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Dan Girardi has joined the Buffalo Sabres as a development coach.

Check it out:

The shot blocking, minute munching defenseman retired from professional hockey after the 2018-19 season and ended up with an incredible 927 games played over his 12 year career. Not bad for an undrafted defenseman who never put up much offence. Girardi is one of the first hires under new Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams, but it's unclear to me if the pair have any previous connection or playing experience together.

It's worth noting though that the 36 year old Girardi resides just over the border from Buffalo on the Niagara Parkway. In fact, he was known to train in Buffalo with Sabres players prior to training camp during his playing days.
