Cory Schneider gets a second chance at the NHL, signs one year deal in free agency

According to a report from New York Islanders insider Arthur Staple, the Islanders have signed free agent goaltender Cory Schneider to a one year contract.

Check it out:

Schneider, of course, was bought out of his contract by the New Jersey Devils after having his career absolutely decimated by hip injuries. As a result, he's played just 39 NHL games over the past two seasons.

There is some history between Schneider and Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello, of course. Lamoriello was GM of the Devils when the team acquired him from the Vancouver Canucks at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. At the time, the Canucks were trying to trade away Roberto Luongo and his huge contract but simply could not find any takers. Schneider had some good years in New jersey, but things fell apart over the last few years, with the netminder even spending some time in the minors despite his $6 million contract.

Here's hoping the talented netminder can re-find his game on Long Island.
