As I am writing this, I cannot say that I am surprised with the announcements. On Tuesday night, the National Hockey League held a quick event for their annual awards, and the spotlight was all over Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

First of all, McDavid was named the winner of the Ted Lindsay for he most outstanding player as voted by their peers. The Oilers’ superstar had to face Auston Matthews along with Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby. Crosby has won the award three times and now McDavid can say the same in just six seasons.

McDavid becomes the seventh player to win the Ted Lindsay three times, joining Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Guy Lafleur, Jaromir Jagr and Alex Ovechkin. The 2020-21 season marks the 50th year the Ted Lindsay Award has been presented to a player, and McDavid is the champion of the night.

Because McDavid was also awarded the Hart trophy, given to the player deemed most valuable to his team. He was nominated along with Matthews in this category again and Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon.

McDavid led the NHL in scoring with 105 points and previously won MVP in 2016-17. McDavid led the NHL with 72 assists, a 1.88 points-per-game scoring rate and 68 even-strength points.

Per Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, McDavid was an unanimous winner of the Hart Trophy -- he received all 100 first-place votes.

He found out he had won both trophies from his teammate Leon Draisaitl, who presented both awards because he was the winner of the two titles last season. And so, both the Hart and Ted Lindsay trophies remain in Edmonton.
