This is the most talked about topic in the NHL at the moment : Montreal Canadiens’ Carey Price has been left unprotected for the Seattle Kraken expansion draft. Talks started emerging that Price could become the face of the NHL’s 32nd franchise if general manager Ron Francis and his staff decide to take on one of the biggest contracts in hockey.

However, it looks like Francis is not willing to take on five more years at a $10.5 million cap hit. He is also due an $11 million signing bonus due in September.

According to several insiders, including Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun and Frank Seravalli, the Kraken did not select Price ahead of tonight’s draft.

And so Price stays in Montreal. The Habs can therefore keep their goaltending duo in-tact, but are likely to lose defenseman Cale Fleury.

Fans got nervous this morning when it was Price’s wife Angela, who is from Kennewick, Washington by the way, posted on social media that the Price family, who was in Kelowna to check on their offseason home, was now driving down to Washington state to see family. Sure, it makes sense that Angela wants to see family, however, let us remind you that with the COVID pandemic,  the U.S. land border will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least Aug. 21.

However, Price might have been allowed in with his family just to visit loved ones. After all, he is a pretty popular guy. And maybe Angela was just having some fun trolling fans...

According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, "Chris Driedger signed a contract to be the team's 1A, and the Kraken will likely select other young more affordable goalies to join him.

I hear they really like Minnesota's Kaapo Kahkonen."

Price has spent his entire 15-year NHL career in Montreal after the Habs selected him fifth overall in 2005. And it looks like he is in Montreal to stay and was successful in protecting his teammate Jake Allen from the expansion draft and the Kraken's hands.
