The Vancouver Canucks have found replacement for Braden Holtby in the crease. After buying out Holtby earlier this week, the Canucks signed veteran goalie Jaroslav Halak to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

He will become the new partner for Thatcher Demko. Halak will reportedly get a base of 1.5M along with potential bonuses of 1.5 M as well, per Pierre LeBrun.

Halak is a 36-year-old veteran of 539 games over 15 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins.

In 19 games for the Bruins last season, Halak posted a 9-6-4 record with a goals against average of 2.53 and a .905 save percentage.

It was made pretty clear that he wasn’t going to re-sign in Boston and found a fit in Vancouver.

The Canucks made another move on Wednesday. TSN Insider Bob McKenzie reports that veteran forward Brandon Sutter is finalizing a one-year deal to remain with the team.

Sutter has spent the past six seasons with the Canucks. Last year, he scored nine goals and added three assists in 43 contests.
