Canes do not stop mocking Habs and their fans after Kotkaniemi’s performance on Tuesday

Geez… the Hurricanes with no mercy! They’re at it AGAIN!

It might have been a preseason game, but it didn’t stop the Carolina Hurricanes to fire another shot at the Montreal Canadiens.

On Tuesday night, the Hurricanes faced the Tampa Bay Lightning and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored the first goal of the contest, which prompted the Hurricanes to poke fun at the team who let this young forward walk.

Of course, you know the story with Kotkaniemi. In the summer of 2019, Sebastian Aho was tendered a five-year, $42.27 million offer sheet by the Montreal Canadiens, with an average annual value of $8.454 million. The Canes therefore matched the offer sheet, re-signing the young forward to a five-year, $42.27 million contract.

When the Canes tended a one-year, $6.1 million offer sheet to Canadiens’ Jesperi Kotkaniemi, it felt like revenge. The Habs opted not to match it and let the young center walk, and many people are still calling out Carolina for making the move in a nonobjective way…

Kotkaniemi ended the night with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over the Lightning and got the first star of the evening.

You know it: the Canes couldn’t help but mocking the Canadiens and their fanbase again on Wednesday morning, calling them out with a simple Morning Friends, and a picture of a smiling Kotkaniemi. You know the Habs' fans : it got to them!

Can you imagine what they’ll do if Kotkaniemi is production this season? Ish…
