Canadian fans sing the national anthem at an NHL hockey game for the first time all season.

You knew it was going to be a special game with Canadian hockey fans finally being allowed to attend a National Hockey League game for the very first time since the pandemic struck, and the fan did not disappoint one bit on Saturday night.

Even before the puck had dropped this one had a special atmosphere thanks to a terrific decision on the part of the Montreal Canadiens to let the fans in the building perform the national anthem rather than simply hiring someone to perform it live. The fans, who were mostly fans of the Canadiens but who were also joined by more than just a few voices from the Toronto Maple Leafs faithful as well, put on a beautiful display when they were asked to sing their anthem in front of the thousands watching at home.

You could really tell it energized the crowd as they were very loud following the anthem itself and one could argue that it energized the Canadiens who were in their home building and opened the period on fire, outshooting the Leafs 8 - 0 in the opening minutes of the game in spite of a powerp lay for the Leafs.

You can listen to the beautiful moment here courtesy of NBC Sports.
