Canada claims Gold at the 2021 World Championship.

The Canadians have done it again.

On Sunday Canada once again demonstrated its dominance as the premier hockey nation on the planet when they defeated Finland at the 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship. The contest was a hard fought and back and forth battle between the Canadians and the Fins, with neither side ever taking more than a one goal lead in the contest despite the game finishing 3 - 2 in favor of the Canadians.

It was the Kontinental Hockey League's Mikael Ruohomaa who opened up the scoring on the day giving the Fins an early 1 - 0 lead in the first period, a goal that was scored in the dying seconds of a power play for Finland.

The Canadians would respond rather quickly however when Anaheim Ducks forward Maxime Comtois responded with a huge goal for the Canadians, one that would once again tie the game, this time at 1 - 1.

It would once again be Finland who would take the lead later in the game however with Petteri Lindbohm of the Swiss-A league recording Finland's second goal of the contest with just 14 minutes left on the clock in the game's third period.

With just 7 minutes left on the clock, and after a big penalty kill on the part of the Canadians, it would be veteran forward Adam Henrique who would get the Canadians back into the game when he scored a goal of his own. Henrique, a teammate of Canada's first goal scorer of the day in Anaheim, has been a big factor for the Canadians throughout this tournament.

That goal would force an eventual overtime frame and once we entered extra time it would be the Canadians who would close it out, taking their first lead of the game in the final moment of the game. The Golden Goal was recorded by Ottawa Senators forward Nick Paul off of a nice passing play, one that was pulled off in spite of the fact that the puck appeared to be bouncing around the ice.

After an 0 - 3 start to the tournament it was an amazing finish for the Canadians and you could clearly see the emotion from this group following the overtime winner.
