The party is still going in Montreal. Last night, the Winnipeg Jets saw their season come to an abrupt end as the Canadiens swept the second-round series with a 3-2 overtime win to advance and now await the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche series in the third round.

No one expected the Habs to do so well in this series, not to mention the idea of sweeping the Jets: simply impossible.

The Canadiens wanted to prove everyone wrong and managed to do so by sweeping the Jets, who had swept the Edmonton Oilers in the first round. The Canadiens were the last NHL team to clinch a playoff spot this season and have been on a roll ever since they rallied to defeat the North Division’s top-seeded Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the first round.

This madness prompte a former NHLer to send insider Emily Kaplan of ESPN a text that will rattle the poor Maple Leafs a week after their playoff elimination:

“Montreal eliminated more teams in the last week than Toronto has in 17 years. This league man.”

No mercy, right? But like Kaplan, we had a good laugh.

The Maple Leafs’ last series win came back in 2004 over the Ottawa Senators, two years after their previous two wins when they advanced to the conference final in 2002. The Leafs have been to the postseason six times since the 2004-05 lockout and have lost four of those in seven games.

This year again, they fell in the first round, haunted by Game 7. And now this text!
