Bruins lose Lauzon after just a single shift.

The Boston Bruins got off to a rough start in Lake Tahoe, at least as far as injuries are concerned.

Although the conditions can be especially difficult on an outdoor rink, I have no doubt that the Bruins were still surprised to see defenseman Jeremy Lauzon exit the game on Sunday after just a single shift. It's unclear what happened to cause Lauzon to leave the game, but presumably he suffered some kind of injury or discomfort during his first shift out on the ice.

The cameras did catch Lauzon walking back to the Bruins locker room, whatever that might look like in this outdoor setting, but we know for a certainty now that this is the end of Lauzon's outdoor experience. The Bruins have officially announced that he will not be returning to tonight's game, and if this does prove to be an injury it could become a problem for the Bruins down the line.

The Bruins are already dealing with numerous injuries on the blue line with veteran Matt Grzelcyk currently sidelined by a lower body injury, Jakub Zboril out with an upper body injury and Kevin Miller out with an undisclosed ailment at this time. Adding Lauzon to that list creates a rather obvious challenge for the Bruins on the back end, but it is important to note that nothing regarding Lauzon's status has been officially announced.

The bigger problem here for the Bruins is that these injuries seem to be currently focused on the left side of their blue line, leaving them with a big hole to fill in that regard. The Bruins of course can simply move players from the right side over to the left as a temporary solution, but that will likely result in their defense being weakened even further.

Update: The Bruins have now confirmed that this was indeed an injury, although we still do not know how severe it is at this time. The Bruins are currently describing this one as an "upper body injury." Should this prove to be longer term in nature the Bruins may have a big problem on their left side.

We will be bringing you all the updates on Lauzon's status as they become available.
