Bruins have no choice; go after top target ahead of deadline

The Boston Bruins are feeling the heat. The team lost 4-1 at the hands of the Pittsburgh Penguins last night and are now nine points behind them, sitting fourth in the division with the Philadelphia Flyers breathing down their necks just three points behind.

The trade deadline is just around the corner and many insiders believe Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has to act now to improve his roster for a long playoff run.

On Thursday, Sportsnet revealed that the Bruins are reportedly going help on the wing with a top target in mind: Kyle Palmieri. This is what insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports ahead of the deadline.

“The pending UFA has certainly enjoyed his time playing /against/ the Bruins with five goals and one assist in six games against Boston this season,” we can read on Sportsnet.

What could be interesting for the Bruins is that Palmieri, who has no-trade protection, lives in Massachusetts in the offseason. Shinzawa explains:

“He is close with Wagner and Charlie Coyle, two of his summer training partners. He is also on an expiring contract. It means the Bruins would not have to protect him from Seattle. If interested, they could extend Palmieri after the expansion draft.”

So, what are the Bruins waiting for?
