Talk about making your wife unhappy from the start.

That’s what Boston Bruins defenseman Connor Clifton managed to do as he posted a story on his Instagram account that he had contracted COVID during his honeymoon.

“When you get COVID on your honeymoon and your wife hates you for the very first time,” the Bruins blue liner wrote.

His post came just a few hours before Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman broke the story on the NHL’s new COVID protocol, which states that there is a mechanism in place for teams to suspend unvaccinated players who are “unable to participate in club activities.”

Now, the story does not tell if Clifton was vaccinated or not at the time he contracted the virus. However, he could have faced suspension if he had a month from now, two weeks before the October 16th, the 2021-22 regular season opener for the Boston Bruins.

While this is terrible timing for his new wife, it’s pretty convenient for the Bruins.
