Brad Marchand comments on Tavares’ horrific injury

This could stun many fans, especially the ones in Toronto who witnessed Maple Leafs captain John Tavares being taken off the ice on a stretcher after a collision early in the first-round playoff matchup with the Montreal Canadiens. It was a freak accident: Tavares bumped into Habs defenseman Ben Chariot, fell to the ice where he was defenseless and hit by forward Corey Perry’s knee. Trainers and doctors from both teams rushed to the ice and attended to the veteran forward before he was taken away. The game was halted for several minutes. A game which the Canadiens won to take the 1-0 lead in the series.

This was a horrific scene for everyone on the ice in Toronto, but also onlooking fans at home and other players.

On Friday morning, ahead of Game 4 between the Washington Capitals and the Boston Bruins, Bard Marchand, who is known to get under the skin of his opponent, including the Maple Leafs’, commented on Tavares’ injury.

And no, it wasn’t a mean one!

“All the best goes out to him from all of us in here.”

Several fans were stunned to see Marchand extend good wishes to a rival in Toronto. A lot even mentioned it is the first time they respect something that comes out of Marchand’s mouth!

Marchand will be happy to know that Tavares was thoroughly examined and assessed by a neurosurgical team at St. Michaels Hospital and the club’s medical director. It sounds like the results of this assessment was positive enough to get Tavares back home with his loved ones. He was kept overnight under observation before he was released on Friday morning. He remains under the care and supervision of team physicians.

The Bruins’ petty forward will now focused on tonight’s game against the Caps, as the Bruins have a 2-1 lead in the tight series with the previous three contests going into overtime.
