Bobby Ryan tallies S/O winner as Red Wings earn come-from-behind win over Blackhawks

The Detroit Red Wings made sure that they wouldn't be counted out tonight in the Windy City.

Veteran forward Bobby Ryan, who is on a professional tryout contract, scored the game-winning goal in the overtime shootout. His backhand/forehand deke past goaltender Kevin Lankinen secured the victory for Detroit, who trailed at one point by a 3-1 margin. Ryan also scored the game-tying goal late in regulation with goaltender Thomas Greiss pulled for the extra attacker.

Detroit found the scoresheet first courtesy of Michael Rasmussen, who was re-signed by the team to a three-year contract over the summer. However, sloppy defensive coverage would soon see three goals on the board for the Blackhawks. Dominik Kubilak tied the game late in the 1st period for Chicago, who also got goals from Brandon Hagel and Jujhar Khaira. 

Mitchell Stephens scored his first (unofficial) goal with the Red Wings at 4:13 of the second period, trimming Chicago's lead to one goal. Greiss would finish the game with 12 saves on 15 shots; he was replaced midway through the contest by Calvin Pickard, who turned in a strong performance with 24 saves. 

The Red Wings return home to face the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night at Little Caesars Arena. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks will be back in action Friday and will take on the St. Louis Blues at United Center.
