This just in, the Columbus Blue Jackets have officially hired (re-hired) John Davidson to act as President of Hockey Operations. The team also announced a three year contract extension for GM Jarmo Kekkalainen.

Check it out:

"John Davidson and Jarmo Kekalainen worked tirelessly and effectively together to transform our hockey club from a team with one Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance in 12 seasons to one that reached the postseason five times in seven years from 2013-20," said President and Alternate Governor Mike Priest on the team's official website. "This is an important time for our organization and having stability and proven leadership at the top of our hockey operations department is critical for us to do what we want to do, which is bring a Stanley Cup championship to Columbus. Signing Jarmo to an extension and then bringing J.D. back gives us the right people to address the opportunities and challenges before us and we couldn't be more excited."

Davidson originally joined the Blue Jackets in this same position in 2012, a position which he held until 2019 when he left to work for the New York Rangers. After Rangers owner James Dolan unceremoniously fired both Davidson and former Rangers GM Jeff Gorton, rumours were rampant that a return to Columubus was in the works of J.D. Today's news confirms the rumours and it's a move that should help get the Blue Jackets back where they need to be in order to compete.

Welcome back, JD!
