We are just days away from the kick off date to the National Hockey League 2021 season, and there seems to be trouble after with the COVID-19 pandemic and the obstacles it could create to the campaign.

On Friday, the Columbus Blue Jackets were forced to announce that the team has held a number of players out of today’s scheduled practice out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with NHL Covid-19 protocols.

This is concerning news to not only the players, but the staff and their families as well. This could put their season in jeopardy, which is probably why the team has decided to be extremely careful with any signs of symptoms or concerns ahead of the campaign. After all, they used the words : abundance of caution.

Seth Jones and Nick Foligno are among the players not skating today “out of an abundance of caution” related to COVID-19.

The Blue Jackets also want to make sure their new forward Max Domi remains safe, seeing that he deals with more health concerns as a Type 1 diabetic.

The Centers for Disease Control has said that Type 1 diabetics are among those who might be at an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

This did not prevent Domi from taking part in the Return to Play plan in which the Montreal Canadiens ousted the Pittsburgh Penguins in the qualifying round before getting eliminated by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the playoffs.

He was traded to the Blue Jackets weeks later and is hoping to make an immediate impact on the team, getting them to remain and improve as contenders.

Domi recorded 17 goals and 44 points in 71 games this season for the Canadiens. He is hoping to do more this year with Columbus, though it now remains to be seen if the team will have to deal with COVID-19 cases before the start of the season.
