The Columbus Blue Jackets will once again be without goaltender Elvis Merzlikins who has had his fair share of troubles when it comes to remaining healthy this season.

Merzlikins was injured again on Saturday night during an ugly 4 - 2 loss to the Nashville Predators. The 26 year old netminder was having a decent outing, having made 35 saves prior to being forced to leave the game due to his injury, and it was one of those saves that appears to have caused the injury. Although we still don't know the full details regarding his injury, Merzlikins appeared to be favoring his left arm as he left the ice. The veteran goaltender appeared to be holding that arm against his own body in an effort to brace it, and I suspect that this is where the injury occurred.

On Sunday the Blue Jackets confirmed that this is indeed a significant injury and it sounds like Merzlikins could be out for a little while here. The Jackets did not provide an official timetable when it comes to their injured netminder but they did indicate that his status is "week to week." That is a designation usually reserved for players dealing with injuries that are more serious in nature.

It may very well be that the Blue Jackets themselves don't yet have the full picture when it comes to Merzlikins' injury, with the team indicating that he will still need to undergo further evaluation in the coming days. We will be bringing you more details as the Blue Jackets provide updates on his status.
