Antoine Roussel celebrates with touching tribute to deceased agent and friend

Vancouver Canucks forward Antoine Roussel loves to score against his childhood team the Montreal Canadiens. He did on Tuesday night, cutting the Habs’ lead in half, but this goal felt even more special. 

Roussel celebrated by unfurling an arrow and pointed to the sky. According to Canucks insider Thomas Drance, it mirrors Alex Burrows’ old tribute to friend Luc Bourdon, who tragically passed away back in 2013. 

It is believed that Roussel’s gesture was a touching tribute to his longtime player agent Christian Daigle, who recently passed away. 

It was announced on Friday that Daigle passed away at the very young age of 42. It was announced by his own agency, Momentum Hockey, where he was president. His firm represents some players from the National Hockey League, such as Alexis Lafrenière Cedric Paquette as well as the brothers Pierre-Olivier and Mathieu Joseph, and Roussel. 

Before he became a player agent, Daigle was himself a hockey player. He led the Val-d’Or Foreurs to the Memorial Cup tournament back in 1998 thanks to his 38 points, which included 15 goals, in 19 playoff games.
He also wore the uniforms of the Hull Olympiques, the Moncton Alpines and the Granby Predateurs, in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Lafreniere posted in French back on Friday, wishing for Christian to Rest In Peace and that he will miss him. 

It was a touching tribute offered by Roussel at the Bell Center. Once again, our thoughts go out to Lafreniere and everyone who loved Christian Daigle.
