Pucks of a Feather

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Josh Manson is one of the more rugged blue liners in the National Hockey League today with a reputation having a physical game and never shying away from delivering big hits.

The Ducks reportedly made him available for trade during this year's NHL Trade Deadline, and according to a recent mailbag from The Athletic's Eric Stephens, Manson put the kibosh on a deal that would have sent him to Manitoba.

That probably didn't come as music to the ears of the Jets, who have been keen on acquiring a right-handed defenseman for some time now. Perhaps they had it in mind that Manson would like to play in the same city that his father Dave played in for three years over the course of his 1,103 game NHL career, but apparently the personal history wasn't enough to draw him north of the border.

Of course, the prospect of sunny and warm weather for the entire year certainly is a hard prospect to turn down.

He's set to become an unrestricted free-agent at the conclusion of this season, as the four year contract that he signed in 2017 will see him earn a handsome $4.1 million in salary.

Last season, he recorded seven points in 23 games played as the Ducks failed to qualify for the postseason.

After being drafted by the Ducks 160th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, Manson has skated in 408 career NHL games, scoring 22 goals and 82 points along with 378 PIM. He's been plagued by injuries the past two seasons, as he missed a chunk of the 2019-20 season following an MCL sprain, while he later missed several weeks of play last season due to suffering a oblique muscle injury.
