Last week, it had been reported that forward Alex Galchenyuk, who’s playing for his fifth team in the past three years, has landed on the fifth line of the Ottawa Senators ahead of the season opener. He was indeed a healthy scratch for the first two games of the campaign, but finally made his debut as a Senator on Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets. The Senators needed to count on himself seeing that rookie Tim Stutzle is out of his team’s lineup “day to day” with a minor injury.

It was therefore Galchenyuk’s moment to shine and did he ever take the spotlight.

The veteran forward was dangerous on the ice and finally scored his first goal on the season, on his Senators’ debut, as he went bad down with an incredible missile.

Check it out:

The veteran forward might have gotten too excited because fans quickly noticed moments later that he ended up crushing his teammate Evgenii Dadonov. While Dadonov is the one getting mixed up and hitting number 17, he got rocked on the move. Fans started making fun that Galchenyuk is looking to injure a teammate in order to keep his spot in the Sens’ lineup.

For now, Galchenyuk’s redemption has started in Ottawa and he is making a good case for head coach D.J. Smith to keep him in his lineup.

After he was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Arizona Coyotes back in June 2018, Galchenyuk wore the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild uniforms before signing a contract as free agent with the Sens on October 28. In the last season, he scored 24 points, including eight goals, in 59 games.

It’s been a tough go for the forward, but it may be getting better. Finally!
