Alex Galchenyuk makes bold move to get offer for 2021-22

When Alex Galchenyuk hit free agency at the end of July, a return with the Toronto Maple Leafs was still in the cards, though now the option to a return to Montreal is also possible. 

However, the forward wants to make sure he gets the best offer out there and so, on Thursday, Galchenyuk himself made a bold move to get the attentions of general managers out there in order to get that offer. 

He posted a video of himself getting busy on the ice, with slick moves and powerful skating, and we kinda see how it would catch the attention of teams out there. We love the bold publicity move!

Earlier this week, it was reported by David Ettedgui that Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin has reportedly reached out to Galchenyuk’s agent to make an offer to the free agent. 

Galchenyuk started his NHL career with the Canadiens, where he played spent the first six years after the Habs selected him third overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Then, he was moved to the Coyotes in Arizona, before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then the Minnesota Wild. He went on to sign as a free agent in the 2020 offseason with the Ottawa Senators, to be traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, who never dressed him for a game. 

He was quickly acquired by the Maple Leafs, where he spent the rest of the season, tallying four goals and 12 points in 26 games. He added a goal and four points in six playoff contests before the Leafs were ousted in the first round by the Canadiens. However, it is clear that the Habs noticed how much Galchenyuk had improved and what he could bring to their roster. They could managed his salary as his last contract was one year at $1.05 million. 

He is one of the best free agents left on the market ahead of the 2021-22 season. Galchenyuk has 140 goals and 193 assists over 583 career games in the NHL. 

It’d make sense to see him back with the team, could be the Leafs or Habs, for 2021-22. But this bold move gets fans excited. What about GMs?
