After Crosby, another Penguin moves to the NHL’s protocol list right before the game

On Tuesday morning, the Pittsburgh Penguins placed superstar captain Sidney Crosby on the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol List and, as a result, he will not be available for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Penguins were therefore forced to cancel this morning’s skate due to protocol rules. It remains to be seen if any of this will have an impact on this evening’s scheduled game…

And now in breaking news fashion, the Penguins have announced that another member has moved to the NHL’s protocol list. The team revealed that assistant coach Todd Reirden will not be available for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers due to COVID-related protocols.

Skating and skills development coach Ty Hennes will join head coach Mike Sullivan and assistant coach Mike Vellucci behind the bench tonight.

The loss of Crosby is a huge loss for the Penguins.  If they lose Crosby for any significant length of time it could completely de-rail an already tenuous season. And that’s saying nothing of the concern for Crosby if he does in fact have COVID-19. Rest up, Sid.

Same goes for Reirden. We are wondering, if this is COVID related, how many players might have been in contact with him and how dangerous this will be moving forward.

Let’s keep an eye on this.
