None of the three players, Tyler Ennis (EDM), Nikita Gusev (NJ) and Matt Luff (LA), were claimed off waivers on Friday, but another option landed on the wire.

Better option? Maybe!

The Detroit Red Wings have placed 2015’s first round pick Evgeny Svechnikov on waivers.

He could be one of the few that gets claimed ahead of tomorrow’s deadline as he is under contract for just $874,125, which is a better fit for most rival teams out there looking for depth up front.

Now Svechnikov is not a top score : in 30 NHL career games, he recorded just five goals, but three of them were tallied this season, which could mean he is finally on his way to become a good third line option.

He is just 24 years old and a change of scenery - on a contending roster - could be the motivation he needs to really get going.

Let’s keep an eye on him and see if some contending clubs look to add him as extra depth for an affordable cap ahead of the April 12th trade deadline.
