5 players waived and 2 players claimed on Saturday's waiver wire.

Teams in the National Hockey League have been very active with waivers in the days leading up to the 2021 regular season and this weekend is proving to be no exception. 

On Friday it was revealed that a large number of players were hitting the waiver wire and we now know that 2 of those players have been claimed by opposing teams. On Saturday league insider Elliotte Friedman reported that 26 year old Swedish defenseman Christian Djoos had been claimed by the Detroit Red Wings, this after Djoos was placed on waivers by his now former team, the Anaheim Ducks. 

Furthermore Friedman also revealed that 24 year old Swedish defenseman Gustav Forsling had also been among the group of Friday players that were claimed, this time with the Florida Panthers walking away with a now former member of the Carolina Hurricanes.

That's all for the players that were claimed on Saturday, but we could be seeing more on Sunday given that there were a number of players placed on waivers on Saturday as well. Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Michael Hutchinson, Oilers forward Joseph Gambardella, Nashville Predators defenseman Ben Harpur, Nashville Predators goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, and Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron make up the list of players who were waived by their teams on Saturday, but we won't know until tomorrow at noon whether or not anyone has put in a claim for any of these players.

Although they may not look like the kind of players team's would jump at the chance to claim, with the addition of the taxi squads for every team in the league having additional depth on your roster will not only be a benefit, it is practically mandatory. It's worth noting however that of the players waived today Hutchinson, with the exception of 1 NHL game for Kasimir Kaskisuo, is the only one to really have played in the NHL last season. Given that teams will be required to carry at least 3 goaltenders he is also potentially the most at risk of being claimed by another team. Although he looked downright awful at times with the Maple Leafs, his 4 game stint with the Toronto Marlies resulted in a 1.98 goals against average and a .943 save percentage and his 1 game with the Colorado Avalanche last season resulted in a 1.00 goals against average and a .944 save percentage.
