A brutal loss.

This is going to be a tough loss for the Edmonton Oilers to get over and as bad as it was for the Oilers this has to feel like a series defining type of win for the Winnipeg Jets who have now taken a commanding 3 - 0 lead in this series.

It looked like the Oilers were set to take their first win of the series with a commanding 4 - 1 lead in the game's third period, but within the span of just three minutes that commanding lead was evaporated and the Oilers were left shell shocked. It all began with a reckless penalty on the part of the Oilers that led to a goal from Mathieu Perreault, a goal that seemed to wake up the Jets in the game's final frame.

The Jets would follow that goal up with two more, this time the goals were scored within a span of 16 seconds leaving the Oilers in stunned disbelief. The look on the face of general manager Ken Holland, even through the mask he was wearing, spoke volumes.

Those goals would force an extra frame and, as bad as things went for the Oilers in the third period, you just had a feeling that this one was going to go the way of the Jets. After it was all said and done it was the returning Nikolaj Ehlers, who had missed the first two games of the series, that put the game away for the Jets with a snipe in overtime.

This was eerily reminiscent of another loss the Oilers suffered in a similar fashion just a few years ago against the Anaheim Ducks. Now to be clear that was a very different Edmonton Oilers team and in this case the Oilers collapse came over a much shorter span of time, but it was once again a 3 goal lead in the third period that rapidly evaporated. Much like in this game with the Jets, the Ducks would claw back to tie the game in regulation and would eventually go on to win the game in overtime, although in the case of the Ducks it took two overtime periods to close the deal.
